Funeral arrangements - what you need to do first

Once notified of a death by the next of kin, another member of the deceased's family or an executor to the estate, and having already offered some advice on the next steps, we are usually asked to bring the deceased into our care.

There is no pressing need for you to come to our office immediately, indeed, many arrangements can be made by phone, via email or at your home. It is helpful, however, if we know the following:

• If there are any particular cultural or religious requirements
• Whether the deceased is to be cremated or buried, and where
• The type of service desired and the name of any particular officiant
• Any pre-paid funeral plan reference number or details

Estimates

We will always provide an indication of costs either by post, by email or verbally. Remember our charges are available for download from our website or you can use our online costs calculator to give you an indication of costs.

Provisional dates and times may also be made over the telephone or by email.

Your main priority, though, is to register the death, and we can assist by collecting or the medical certificate cause of death on your behalf, in making an appointment with the Registrar and/or arranging transport for you.
