Repatriation

We are experienced in inward and outward repatriation, which, in this context, usually refers to the movement of deceased human remains rather than the movement of cremated remains.

Cost is based on the funeral director’s service in effecting the export of the remains, an agent’s costs (maybe another funeral director) in handling the import of the remains, the coffin, airline charges and local disbursements connected with the funeral service and resultant burial or cremation.

Airline tariffs are normally based on the gross weight of the coffin, thus making detailed estimates difficult as the weight is affected by the choice of coffin and import requirements, for example, hermetically sealed zinc lining. In some cases, particularly where the destination is Scotland, Eire or the near Continent, road transportation can be a cost effective alternative. Nonetheless, depending on the destination, fixed prices can be obtained and detailed quotations supplied.

Our published charge, please see, or download, our current prices and charges leaflet, represents a comprehensive cost for our services, including delivery of the remains to, or collection from, a London airport, the making of all necessary arrangements including liaison with HM Coroner, overseas agents and airlines, taking the deceased into our care locally (within 10 miles of our office), certified embalming and the handling of all legal documentation.

Additional charges will include a coffin, disbursements in respect of the funeral in the UK or overseas, any direct costs associated with the transfer of the coffin for Consulate seals, translation of official documents and any miscellaneous fees incurred.

In considering inward repatriation, it is worth bearing in mind that a transportation coffin might not be suitable for burial or cremation in this country for environmental reasons.
